Current Research in Physics: Workshop for Middle & High School Teachers
Tour reserach labs, meet scientists, and pick up some cool demos to take back to the classroom. This three-day workshop will focus on a different cutting-edge topic in physics each day. In addition to filling in the modern physics part of your curriculum, these topics can be integrated into your study of classical physics. This workshop is designed for physical science teachers of grades 7-12.

Plasma Physics
Will we ever use fusion as an energy source? Where's the plasma in a plasma TV? Find out here! In this workshop, we will explore the world of plasma physics. Plasma physics topics can easily be integrated into your existing curriculum in units on electricity and magnetism, energy, or states of matter.

Quantum Computing
How are quantum computers revolutionizing technology? What quantum effects can we use to our advantage? Curriculum links for quantum electronics include technology, angular momentum, atomic structure, and electrical circuits.

High Energy Particle Physics
What are protons made of? What are cosmic rays? In this workshop, you'll explore the world of the tiniest building blocks of the universe - subatomic particles! Learn how to incorporate the study of particle physics into your lessons on atomic structure, gravity, and cosmology (history of the universe).

Date: July 14-16, 2008,  9 am - 3 pm daily
Cost: $50 (includes lunch and supplies)

Physics Fair! A UW Physics Department Open House
The first annual Physics Fair is an upgrade of the department open house that has been held in the past. Join us for a day of hands-on activities, physics demonstrations, and tours of the Physics Department's research facilities. Meet scientists, professors, and graduate students to learn more about what's happening in current physics research. The Ingersoll Physics Museum will also be open. Everyone is invited (not just teachers)!
Dates: Saturday, February 16, 2008
Drop in anytime from 11 am - 4 pm.
