About Condensed Matter

The R.G. Herb Materials Physics Seminar Series is held weekly on Thursdays at 10 am in 5310 Chamberlin Hall. It is endowed by a generous bequest from Raymond G. and Anne Herb. Ray Herb's distinguished career on the faculty of the UW Physics Department included development of powerful electrostic accelerators for the country's premier nuclear physics programs. After retiring from the physics faculty, he went on to found National Electrostatics Corporation, which he ran until his death at age 91. National Electrostatics develops and manufactures accelerators for such diverse applications as x-ray analysis of Chunnel traffic and detection of art fraud at the Louvre.
