Spin relaxation in SiGe two-dimensional
electron gases
The spins of electrons in two-dimensional electron gases
precess in the Rashba field that comes from spin-orbit
coupling and the electric field in the nanostructure. When
the electron scatters, the axis of precession undergoes a
random re-orientation, causing relaxation. Charlie Tahan
and I calculated the size of this effect and its dependence
on the direction of the applied magnetic field.
